For a quality up to date English dictionary we have access to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) online. You can also enter 'oed' or 'oxford english dictionary' into the Library Search bar on the Library Homepage to immediately locate this database.

To find a print copy of a dictionary in the library, enter a search for 'dictionary' into Library Search. When the results page loads you can limit your search to physical copies by clicking "Everything" to the right of the search bar to expand the menu and choosing "Print only".

Location information is displayed with each of the results. Make a note of the holding library (including wing and floor), and the class number. If this information is not displayed, you can either click on the title, or on 'See all versions' for an expanded view which includes this information.

For online dictionaries, simply select 'Available online' in the left hand filter menu, then 'Apply Filters' if prompted.

If you would like to consult a specific dictionary, for instance, in a particular language or on a particular subject, you can filter by subject on the left hand side. If you do not see a suitable subject filter, you can also add the subject to your search terms and search again. Library Search will automatically look for all of your search terms together.

For language dictionaries, Oxford Language Dictionaries Online provides access to comprehensive bilingual dictionaries, in addition to study materials that provide help with learning and using languages.
