Yes, the DVD collection is based in the Sydney Jones Library, Abercromby Wing, Ground Floor.

To find out if we have a particular DVD within the Library, search for the DVD by title via Library Search.

Use the filters under Resource Type to select videos.

List of Resource types on Library Search with Videos highlighted.

Under Availability click Available in the Library

Library Search showing Availability option with 'Available in the Library' highlighted.

If the DVD is available it will show in the result as Available in the Sydney Jones Library, Abercromby Wing, Ground Floor DVD Collection (CIT). All DVDs are shelved alphabetically by title.

All DVDs can be borrowed for up to four weeks and are then auto-renewed every four weeks unless requested by another customer.

Most MWS computers have DVD drives on them, so they can be used to watch a DVD (please note: Blu-Ray DVDs cannot be viewed).

There is a VHS video player in Special Collections and Archives in the Sydney Jones Library. For use, you are required to book a slot in the Reading Room via the  booking request form. Please contact SCA for further details.

Earphones should be used when watching DVDs.

Does the Library provide portable DVD Players?

The library also has both external DVD/CD drives and a Portable DVD player for loan from the Help Desk in the Sydney Jones Library.

The external DVD/CD drives can be plugged into a Library PC or user's own laptops via USB. They are plug and play and should not require any extra software. Unfortunately they do not work on our library-issued laptops

The Portable DVD player has it's own screen which DVDs can be directly played from.

They are issued for the day and are for library use only.

Please note: users will require headphones to use both.

Library DVDs have the same copyright restrictions as any other film, and the permissions are generally displayed at the beginning of the film. Showing films in public on GOV.UK go into detail regarding the permissions.
