Part of the charge payable on your record may be for the cost of replacing the book, rather than just fines. If books are not returned after three overdue notifications have been sent (by email) an invoice letter will be sent. This presumes that the book has been lost and gives the full replacement cost for a new book, plus an administration charge.

If the book has not been lost, return it to the library as soon as possible. Once it has been returned, the replacement cost will be removed from your record, leaving just the fines to pay.

Please note that fines are now only charged on ordinary loan items that are in demand and have been recalled because of being reserved by another Library customer. However, it is still important that you take the steps above to ensure that your books do not go overdue. Fines on one-day loan items are £1 immediate fine and £1 for each subsequent day, so these fines can mount up quickly if books are not returned.
