The Library no longer charges fines for late return of items in most circumstances. For standard and 7-day loan items fines are only charged when items have been recalled because they have been reserved by another Library customer.
However, it is still important that you take the steps below to ensure that your books do not go overdue. Use the link below to the Library's fines policy for other circumstances where charges may be made.
There are a number of things you can do to make sure you do not incur fines:
- Make sure you renew books when they become due. If you check My Library Record you will be prevented from renewing items that have been requested and you will know you need to return them.
- Check your University email regularly. If an item is reserved by someone else after you borrowed it you will be sent an email when it is due for return. We send a courtesy notice one day before items are due for return (except 1-day and 3-day loan items). We also send overdue notices to this email, and notification of books that are recalled. Recalled items may become due at an earlier date than the original return date.
- Get in touch using one of the Contact Us options if you have a problem paying your fines or visiting the Library to discuss your options.
