The Library uses Shibboleth authentication to allow you to log into our online resources using your MWS username and password. We use Shibboleth alongside another system called EZProxy.

On campus a resource provider may not ask you to log in, as you will already be authenticated because you are coming from a campus IP address (provided the Library has paid for a subscription to that resource). When you are off campus, you will need to enter your MWS username and password to access the full-text of a resource. If you start your search from the Library webpages you will be certain you are logged in.

Shibboleth is an alternative to Athens authentication.

How do I log into the EZProxy service?

EZProxy is a service currently being used by the Library to authenticate electronic resources (along with Shibboleth, which you may also see). Your EZProxy username and password are the same as the one you use to log in to Liverpool's Managed Windows Service, which gives access to email, internet and software applications. If you use this same login you should find it works okay. If you do have any login problems, as an online student you can consult the ONLINE PROGRAMMES WEB PAGES, and there is a link there to report problems.
