The University of Liverpool holds a licence from the Copyright Licencing Agency (CLA), which allows designated members of our institution to lawfully make copies of and reuse content from books, reports, journals, and even websites. The licence also allows the sharing of the copied content with members of university staff and registered students.

The publications covered by this licence include resources from the United Kingdom, from international mandate publishers, and from numerous international territories. To see whether a publication is covered, visit the Check Permissions page, then enter the ISBN/ISSN or the title and select ‘Higher Education’ from the Licence Type dropdown box, and click ‘Check’.

It is important to note that as part of this licence, you can copy one whole book chapter/ one whole journal article or 10% of the total publication, whichever is greater.

Reading Lists @ Liverpool are the easiest and most effective way to request and use digitised copies made under the CLA HE licence. Once requested, the digitisation team will provide a high quality scan for you. The scan will be automatically attached to the item on your Reading List and be instantly accessible. See our step by step guide for how to raise a digitisation request through a Reading List or watch our video guide.
