The Library runs a programme of workshops and webinars to help you improve your academic skills through KnowHow.
You can book a one to one appointment to develop your academic writing through Writing@Liverpool.
You can also speak to the Liaison Librarian for your subject to discuss and arrange one-to-one help and support.
On your VLE (Canvas or VITAL), you will find a KnowHow course/module. Within this are sections on ‘Critical Reading’, ‘Referencing’ and ‘Academic Writing’. These contain a variety of interactive resources to help with academic writing, establishing arguments, planning an essay and proofreading.
For any KnowHow enquires please email: knowhow@liverpool.ac.uk
In addition, the Library has an extensive range of both printed and electronic books and guides on writing essays and assignments, and other study skills, many being subject-specific. You can find these on Library Search. A link to Library Search can be found on the Library Homepage. Examples of titles that can be found include essay writing and study skills.
Your Liaison Librarian can help you in organising essay project assignments and give advice on how to conduct a literature search.
If you need further help contact your departmental Student Support Office.
If it is English language skills you require, try the University's Language Lounge. Also, the Continuing Education programme runs courses that may be of interest.
Students with a Student Support Information Sheet can contact the Disability Support Team.
For research postgraduates see the library's Postgraduate Research Guide and the Liverpool Doctoral College Development Programme online resources.
Also see the Researcher KnowHow training programme for PhD students and researchers at a similar level.
Training in referencing is included in the training workshops throughout the year.
Alternatively, look at the Referencing Guide, or speak to the Liaison Librarian for your subject to discuss and arrange one-to-one help and support.
Please note that when referencing you should always refer to any departmental/school guidelines you have been given.
