There are no fines for late return of books or Library equipment. However, if a recalled item is returned late and is unreturned after 7 days then you will be prevented from borrowing and a block will be placed on your Library account until the item is returned.
If however you have lost a Library book or item, then a charge will be added to your account for the cost of replacing the book. In this case an invoice letter will be sent, via email with an estimated replacement cost for a new book.
If we do not hear from you for another 28 days following the date of the invoice an accurate replacement charge will be added.
If the book has not been lost, return it to the library as soon as possible. Once it has been returned, the replacement cost will be removed from your record.
Please note if you receive a bill for a book that you still have, please do not pay the bill online. Instead bring the book back and speak to Library staff. If you have paid a bill in error for a book that is not lost, again contact Library staff so we can arrange a refund.
How can I pay for a lost Library item?
If you have received a bill about a lost item please contact us first at one of the options listed on this page or in person at the Help Desk. Once staff have had a conversation with you to confirm that the book has indeed been lost, they will add a replacement charge to your Library Account. Once the charge has been added, you can pay for the book(s) at the Help Desks (card payment only) or online at the University of Liverpool Online Store. Just enter the cost of the replacement copy in the space provided and then click Add to Basket and follow the payment instructions.
What if I have been ill or away from the Library for some time? Do I still have to pay the replacement cost for any lost items?
In situations where there are mitigating circumstances (e.g. illness, bereavement) the charge is negotiable. Speak to a member of staff or get in touch using one of the contact options on this page.
