What is happening?

The Sydney Jones Library (SJL) will be closed overnight from September 16 up to May 2025 with 24/7 services resuming throughout May 2025 for the summer revision period.

Why is the SJL closing overnight?

A complete renovation and expansion of the SJL toilet facilities is well underway. The overnight closure of the building is necessary to enable this work to be undertaken safely and smoothly, and to minimise disruption to our users using the library during the day.

What time will the SJL be open?

The SJL will be open from 8am until 10pm from 16 September up to May 2025 when 24/7 services will resume for the summer revision period.

Are there any other 24/7 study spaces available?

Yes, 24/7 study spaces will still be available on campus to users throughout the 2024-25 academic year over at the Harold Cohen Library (HCL) which will be open as usual.

Can I still study in the Sydney Jones Library whilst the building works take place?

Yes. The Grove Wing is currently closed but you can access and study in all parts of the Abercromby Wing. However, you should expect significant noise levels and reduced access to facilities.

As works progress, other toilets in the Library will be closed off, but there will always be toilet facilities. The SJL is currently operating summer opening hours and is open 9am-6pm daily.

I need a copy of a specific book, how do I get it?

During this period of building work, you will not be able to get direct shelf access to the majority of the Sydney Jones physical book collections, which are shelved in the Grove Wing, but don't worry - we will operate a Click and Collect service Monday to Friday to provide access to physical materials, and our services and extensive collections will remain available online via the library website and Library Search.
