It is helpful for reading list items to be assigned an importance to not only help students to prioritise their reading but to also guide the library in how best to provide access to the material: eBooks, number of print copies, etc. What is the difference between Key, Recommended and Background in Reading Lists @ Liverpool?
Each time a new item is bookmarked to be added to your reading list on Reading List @ Liverpool, an ‘importance’ will need to be assigned to indicate if it is Key, Recommended or Background reading. This field is marked as ‘Importance (Required)’ and you will not be able to proceed with the bookmark until an importance has been selected.
For lists which include existing items without an importance set, when you hit the Publish button you will be prompted to Set Importances for those items. At this point, you can bypass this option by just clicking Cancel and then Publish. You also have the option to Request review.
If a list is sent for review which has items on it which have not had an importance set, the item will be assigned as Recommended and treated as such.
If importance options are changed, student numbers increase or new items are added, the module coordinator should send the list for Review so the library can ensure adequate copies are in stock.
You can find more information about how to make most of your reading lists in our Reading Lists guide.
