Before you can bookmark an item from Library Search you will need to install the Talis bookmarking extension. (Talis is the software that Reading Lists @ Liverpool runs on.) Instructions for installing the bookmarking extension can be found here.
Once you have installed the extension to your browser you should see the turquoise icon in your toolbar.
Now go to Library Search and find the item you are looking for. With the item record open click on the Talis bookmarking extension icon.
This will then open the bookmark editor where you can make changes to the information the extension has captured – this usually isn’t necessary however.
Scroll to the bottom of the editor and you will see two buttons: Create and Create & Add to List.
Click Create to simply save the bookmark to your My Bookmarks menu on Reading Lists @ Liverpool to use later.
If you click on Create & Add to List this can be helpful when working on a list – you can add items to specific sections within your list.
At the same time you can include Notes for students and the library, e.g. ‘Read chapter 1 before seminar 1.’ You should also signpost the relative importance of the items in your list by choosing Key, Recommended or Background.
Click OK once you’ve finished editing your bookmark. It will then be found on the list you have chosen.
When adding books to your list the best source is the Library Search – this will carry through availability information to your list.
Remember that Library Search can also be used to find material that the library doesn’t hold – just choose Expanded search from the dropdown menu at the end of the search box. If you choose this option, please remember to send your list for review so we can look at purchasing the items for library stock
If you have any questions or problems please contact the Reading List Support Team or your Liaison Librarian.
