The Library provides an opportunity for local school and college students to gain a practical insight to the workings of an Academic Library as well as the chance to register to use the Library for reference purposes. Students are also allowed access to some of our electronic resources, including eBooks and journals through our on site library walk-in access PC or laptop, which is used at the Help Desk.

We can offer:

  • A tour of the most relevant library - Sydney Jones Library for Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences or Harold Cohen Library for Science, Medicine & Engineering. This will include a brief demonstration of the Library Catalogue
  • Access to the building without a Library tour
  • Introductory workshop - A brief presentation followed by a hands-on demonstration that introduces students to the Library webpages, Library Catalogue and different material types. This can be followed by a tour of the Library (we recommend this session for Sixth Form Students preparing for their Extended Project Qualification.)

To arrange a visit please complete the booking form and provide us with as much detail as possible and we will get back to you within 3 working days.

Please note that while we are keen to offer sessions that are convenient to you, we may not always be able to accommodate the dates/numbers that you require, so contacting us well in advance is advisable. The maximum number of students we can take at one visit is 25, and tours are available during Feb – mid April, June – July, mid Oct – Dec. We are unable to offer tours at other times of the year due to the pressures of the academic year.
